Special edition | CPMR General Assembly & 5O Anniversary celebration: November 2023
On 15-17 November, members of the Conference of Peripheral Regions (CPMR) returned to where it all began to commemorate the establishment of the Association in Saint-Malo in 1973. More than 300 participants, including former CPMR Presidents, Members of the European Parliament, officials from the European Commission, and guests from Europe and Brittany, gathered for the occasion. Special edition | CPMR Political Bureau: June 2023
The CPMR Political Bureau took place on the 9th of June in Firenze, Region of Tuscany. Members reflected on different issues in a crucial moment for regional authorities to be placed at the heart of the future of Europe. The seminar “Regions at the Forefront of a Union of Equality” took place the day before, in light of the publication, by the European Commission, of the directive proposal on gender-based violence. Discussions turned around the opportunities to boost regional action with regards to the directive on challenges linked to cyber-violence. Read the Newsletter
Special edition | CPMR Political Bureau : March 2023
Regional politicians have gathered in Cartagena for the spring meeting of the CPMR Political Bureau, hosted by the Region of Murcia (Spain). Regional leaders emphasised the importance of empowering regions to forge a resilient and inclusive European Union that accounts for the diversity of its territories and responds effectively to future challenges. The seminar “The Role of Maritime Ports at the Crossroad of the Energy Transition” was organised the day before by the CPMR together with the Region of Murcia and the Cartagena Port Authority. The event brought together actors from ports and regions from different European sea basins, who discussed about the opportunities and innovative solutions on the potential of maritime ports as hubs and drivers for the clean energy transition. Special edition | CPMR General Assembly : December 2022
The 2022 CPMR General Assembly, organised from 28 to 29 October in Agios Nikolaos (Region of Crete, Greece) excelled this year in the organisation of numerous events. To start, the “Smart Specialisation as a key driver towards Sustainable Blue Economy” event was organised jointly with the CPMR, Region of Crete and the European Commission on 25 October. The AspBAN project Intercommission seminar on “Ports as Hubs of the Blue Economy” took place the day after, focusing on the changing future of ports within the twin transition. The General Assembly provided an opportunity for members to get together, exchange and have bi-lateral meetings on common challenges and opportunities around sea basins, as well as technical and project meetings that provided members with updates on main policy areas, actions plans and priorities. Special edition | CPMR Political Bureau : June 2022
The CPMR Political Bureau took place on 15 and 16 June 2022 in Helsingborg, hosted by Region Skåne (Sweden). The EU strategy to accelerate the energy transition, REPowerEU, and its implications for the regions was discussed during the debate. The local and regional authorities stressed the importance of improving the TEN-T regulation. Secretary General Eleni Marianou emphasized CPMR activities and contributions done so far for the post-2027 programming phase. The members strongly condemned the war in Ukraine and reiterated their support to the Ukrainian regions and cities. The Political Bureau was preceded by an event on Smart Specialisation Strategies in the Blue Economy, organised jointly with Skåne Region and the European Commission. Read the Newsletter
Special edition | CPMR General Assembly : October 2021
Members of the CPMR got together on 14 October in a virtual meeting to celebrate the Conference of Peripheral and Maritime Regions’ 49th General Assembly. The meeting was chaired by President Cees Loggen. The agenda of the meeting was built around three main topics: EU Recovery, Maritime policies, and Climate proof connectivity from a regional perspective – and included speakers from the CPMR membership as well as external guests. Secretary General Eleni Marianou presented the strategic objectives of the CPMR as an organisation in the long-term, as well as the policy action plans for the upcoming months. Read the Newsletter

Members of the CPMR Political Bureau gathered last 24 June in a hybrid meeting organised from Amsterdam, Noord-Holland region, under the auspices of CPMR President Cees Loggen, Regional Minister of Noord-Holland. Special edition | CPMR General Assembly : November 2020
On October 29, Members of the CPMR came together virtually for the 48th General Assembly, in the midst of the negotiations on the EU Recovery Fund and the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF). The discussion focused on how regions are addressing the impact of the Covid crisis and how the Recovery Plan for Europe presented by the European Commission is taking shape. On this occasion, its member regions adopted their Final Declaration and reiterated their support for the European Union’s ambition to lead the way out of the crisis. On 11 June 2020, Members of the CPMR Political Bureau came together virtually to discuss high topics on the regional agenda, and establish the future policy priorities & guidelines of work for the CPMR. A special session on The Future of the European Budget was held, with the interventions of Director General of DG REGIO, Marc Lemaître from the European Commission, and Chair of the REGI Committee of the European Parliament, Younous Omarjee. The Recovery Plan and the revised Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027 were debated, following the different analysis carried out by the CPMR General Secretariat.

CPMR Special Newsletter COVID-19: 27 March 2020
The CPMR Special Newsletter on COVID-19 was launched in March 2020. Following the updates on the Pandemic and European policy, the CPMR Secretariat carried out analysis on COVID-19 and Cohesion Policy, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and Transport. The CPMR is determined to support its Member Regions, and those sectors that are most affected by this crisis.
