CLEANATLANTIC focusses on tackling marine litter in the Atlantic Area. The Kick-off Meeting took place on 7-8 November in Vigo (Galicia, ES). The project started on 1st September 2017 and will end on 31st August 2020.

CleanAtlantic aims to protect biodiversity and ecosystem services in the Atlantic Area by improving capabilities to monitor, prevent and remove (macro) marine litter. The project will also contribute to raise awareness and change attitudes among stakeholders and to improve marine litter managing systems.

The CPMR-AAC’s role will mainly consist in ensuring the capitalisation of the project. In this perspective, it will contact its members on a regular basis and will organise a conference in the European Parliament after the European Elections. The involvement of the CPMR-AAC will contribute to its work on marine litter.

The CLEAN ATLANTIC project, which involves the CPMR-AAC as a partner, has a total budget of 3.2 million euros (ERDF: 2.4 million euros). This project is co-financed by the European Union in the framework of the Atlantic Are Programme.

It is a 3-year project led by CETMAR bringing together partners from Spain (CETMAR, INTECMAR, IEO, USC), from France (CEDRE, IFREMER, CPMR), from Ireland (Marine Institute), from Portugal (DGRM, IST, DROTA, ARDITI OOM) and from United-Kingdom (CEFAS).
