logo-SearicaAs the European Parliament’s Seas, Rivers, Islands and Coastal Areas Intergroup (SEArica) gets ready for its Kick off meeting scheduled on 12 May 2015, a new web site has also been launched.

The Searica.eu website, managed by the CPMR secretariat is in English and French and it is divided by different thematic topics on which the Members of the Intergroup are mobilised, such as Maritime Industry, Transport and Safety, Marine and Maritime Research, and social and environmental issues. The website also focuses on Sea Basins and maritime areas particularly the Baltic, the Atlantic, the Mediterranean the Outermost Regions, and on Islands, since the Intergroup includes a sea-basin and islands dimension.

The web site is an important tool for the Intergroup that “reflects the integrated approach of IMP by addressing all relevant marine and maritime topics from different geographical and sectorial angles…. and bring together MEPs from coastal constituencies and islands and relevant stakeholders to push for an ambitious European maritime agenda” recalled Gesine Meissner, Member of the European Parliament and Chair of the Intergroup.

The Kick off meeting will consist of a Seminar entitled “Seizing the opportunity to develop a stronger Europe of the sea” and will be divided into three thematic sessions, notably “Towards a sustainable Blue Growth”, “EU Funds in support of maritime activities”, and “Tackling the challenges of the Islands”. The meeting will open with a welcome address by Gesine Meissner in presence of the Commissioner for the Environment and Maritime Affairs, Karmenu Vella, as well as different MEPs, including – for those who confirmed their participation at this stage – Alain Cadec, Isabelle Thomas, Ricardo Serrão Santos, Tonino Picula and Sofia Ribeiro.
