pcea2015-logo-ref_01-1As announced on the new programme’s website, the first calls for proposals, covering the programme’s four priorities, are expected to be launched on 26 April 2016. The total budget earmarked for these first calls is €35 million. The selection process will be divided into two stages: the applicants will first have to submit Expressions of Interest (by 27 May), which will be assessed by September; the shortlisted applicants will then be allowed to submit full project applications between mid-September and November. Information to applicants will be reported in January 2017 and selected projects will start during the first quarter of 2017.

An official event should be organised before summer 2016 to present the new programme and its priorities to all Atlantic Stakeholders. The open priorities are: “Stimulating innovation and competitiveness”, “Fostering resource efficiency”, “Strengthening the territory’s resilience to risks of natural, climate and human origin” and “Enhancing biodiversity and the natural and cultural assets”.

Due to lengthy negotiations, the Interreg Atlantic Area 2014-2020 Programme was only adopted in November 2015, causing delays in the launching of the first calls for proposals. The Atlantic Arc Commission has been waiting for the launch of the programme for more than two years and is now prepared to submit project proposals in line with its Working Groups, namely the “Innovation”, “Fisheries and Aquaculture”, “Atlantic Tourism and Culture” and “Marine Renewable Energy” Working Groups in particular. These Working Groups have already identified priority actions or sectors in which the members would like to pool efforts and deliver actions at the transnational level.
