LogoMarina-MedEnhancing Integrated Maritime Policy in the Mediterranean Basin” is a conference that will be organised on 3-5 March 2015 in Brussels by the Molise Region in the framework of the COM CAP MarInA-Med project (Med Programme 2007-2013), and hosted by the Committee of the Regions. Its aim is twofold as it will be the occasion to develop specific political and technical debates on different aspects concerning the future for cooperation in the Med basin while discussing preliminary recommendations to be addressed to the MED Cooperation Programme for its 2014-2020 programming period.

Bringing together representatives of EU and EuroMed Institutions and Assemblies (DGs of the European Commission, Members of the European Parliament, the Committee of the Regions, etc.), local and regional authorities, Mediterranean networks, universities and research centres, the private sector as well as the representatives of transnational cooperation projects, the debates will explore the state of play of the implementation of the Med Maritime Integrated projects. The discussions will particularly focus on the capitalisation of their respective results in order to put them into perspective with regard to the conclusions of the previous COM&CAP seminars (Common Fisheries Policy and the future of fisheries and Pesca-tourism, governance in the Mediterranean through Macro-regional and Sea-basin strategies, the potential for Blue energies in the basin, among others) and build on further recommendations with contributions from the participants. These exchanges shall allow new perspectives, approaches and solutions in terms of sparking engagement in future initiatives to be envisioned. To this extent, experts, politicians, representatives of the projects and the audience will interact in moderated discussions and round tables divided in four main topical panels.

Firstly, the introductory round table will encourage political debates dealing with the governance perspectives of the Mediterranean through Macro-Regional and Sea-Basin Strategies with a specific focus on the recently approved EUSAIR, exploring the different aspects concerning the future for cooperation in the area. In the framework of these strategies and for an integrated approach to the Mediterranean, the panel will also introduce reflections on the conclusions drawn from three previous capitalisation seminars organised under the umbrella of COM&CAP MarInA-Med in Termoli, Rome and Marseille on fisheries and tourism, climate change, environmental risks prevention, blue energies, funding resources, etc., to which the three other round tables will respond with more technical and integrated contributions.

Indeed, based on the previous elements, the following round tables will propose and discuss concrete preliminary recommendations, which the representatives of the maritime projects will have the opportunity to comment and amend through brief presentations of their respective results. The round tables will welcome the comments and recommendations of the European Commission, the European Parliament and other relevant stakeholders on the specific topics addressed, namely on the environmental and Blue Growth dimensions of the Mediterranean and their relations on the one hand to industrial development in the basin with a focus on sustainable ports and energy, and on the other hand to maritime jobs and sustainable employment in the basin with a focus on fisheries and tourism. The dialogues, debates and comments arising from all round-tables should allow the partnership of COM&CAP MarInA-Med to deliver ad hoc recommendations to the MED Programme regarding issues and challenges in the Mediterranean basin to be tackled in the future and during the forthcoming programming period.
