Organised with the Permanent International Secretariat of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC PERMIS), the workshop is taking place at the headquarters of BSEC PERMIS in Istanbul, Turkey, on 28 March.
The current period is crucially important, with several programmes and policies regarding the wider Black Sea region currently under way or in the process of being developed.
These include territorial cooperation programmes, and the European Commission’s Facility for Blue Growth in the Black Sea, and Blue Growth Initiative for Research and Innovation in the Black Sea, which aim to foster the development of the Blue Economy in the area.
This workshop will present the role of Regional Authorities in policy-making, the funding instruments available and sustainability of actions, as well as the newly launched AI-NURECC Initiative (Adriatic Ionian Network of Universities, Regions, Chambers of Commerce and Cities) as an idea for closer cooperation in the Black Sea area.
It will take place just after the 4th meeting for developing a Blue Growth Initiative for Research and Innovation in the Black Sea, organised by the European Commission on 27 March at the BSEC PERMIS Headquarters.
The workshop will present how Regional & Local Authorities, together with relevant stakeholders, may collaborate towards regional development like in other areas of Europe. As a result, we hope to strengthen the relationship between the CPMR-BBSC Members and other stakeholders, and ensure a more active involvement in projects and policies that cope with regional and local needs in an innovative way.
Given the ongoing Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the upcoming Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2019, this is an ideal opportunity for BBSC Members and other Regions and relevant stakeholders to brainstorm and exchange best practices towards results-oriented partnerships and synergies.
