On the 9 January, the President of the CPMR Vasco Cordeiro, President of the Regional Goverment of the Azores, participated in an event with Commissioner Elisa Ferreira organised by the Committee of the Regions togehter with high-level representatives of the #CohesionAlliance partnership. The meeting aimed at presenting Cohesion Alliance’s main messages regarding the discussions on the post 2020 Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) and the cohesion policy dossiers.
The exchange of views with the Commissioner focused on key issues concerning cohesion policy with special attention to the Just Transition Mechanism. President Cordeiro welcomed the Just Transition Fund but emphasized the need to support the fund with “fresh money” as the most important point is to maintain a strong cohesion policy adequately financed that can empower regions to deliver the EU ambitions on the ground.
The #CohesionAlliance is a coalition of those who believe that EU cohesion policy must continue to be a pillar of the EU’s future. The Alliance was created through cooperation between the leading European associations of cities and regions and the European Committee of the Regions. It demands that the EU budget after 2020 makes cohesion policy stronger, more effective, visible and available for every region in the European Union.
