Vasco Cordeiro, President of the CPMR and President of the Government of the Azores, will give his opening speech and introduce the work that will focus on cohesion, maritime affairs, accessibility, climate and other policy areas, such as migration.
A Speaker’s Corner will also be organised on “The example of Cretan cooperative banks and their contribution to the regional economy of Crete”. It will be chaired by George Alexakis, and both Nikolaos Myrtakis, Vice-President of the Pancretan Cooperative Bank and Georgios Epanomeritakis, Director of the Chania Cooperative Bank, will offer their contribution.
The European Parliament will be represented by Maria Spyraki who will participate in the opening session, and Lambert Van Nistelrooij – in his capacity of Member of the Regional Development Committee – who will take part in the discussions on the “Governance of Cohesion Policy” and particularly on the role and place for regions.
During the proceedings, the CPMR secretariat will also give an overview of current Cohesion Policy activities and maritime policy priorities, and will present its response to the consultation on the mid-term review of the 2011 White Paper on transport.
Antonis Magoulas, Director of the Institute of Marine Biology, Biotechnology and Aquaculture of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research, will present to the CPMR Members a successful example of the use of EU funds in the field of blue biotechnologies.
