Coastal Management & Protection
The CPMR encourages synergies between development strategies implemented by the regions and the implementation of EU regulations and strategies affecting the use of maritime and coastal space.
For this, CPMR concentrates its work on the issue of land-sea interactions and of the role of the regions in implementation of the MSP and MSFD Directives. The CPMR is a member of the EC Expert Group on ICM and of the EC Coordination Group of the MSFD.
In the area of coastal data, the CPMR works with the objective to facilitate interoperability and maximum accessibility of data, the setting-up of dissemination platforms and appropriate training for users, including the Regions.
CPMR actions in the area of MSP and ICM are developed through a Working Group coordinated by Region Noord-Holland. CPMR actions in the area of coastal data is coordinated by Region Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur.
These actions involve a sea basin dimension developed through relevant Working Groups or initiatives of CPMR Geographical Commissions (Baltic Sea Commission, Intermediterranean Commission, North Sea Commission).
The CPMR advocates a continuous strengthening, at both international and European level, of maritime safety, so as to anticipate and avoid disasters.
Beyond the full implementation of existing measures, this raises the question of the preparation of an Erika IV package which could, among other issues, ensure recognition of environmental damage.
The CPMR has observer status in the International Oil Compensation Fund (IOPC).
CPMR action in the area of maritime safety is developed through the Erika IV initiative coordinated by Region Brittany.
