“We are all Mediterranean” is the public petition campaign, based on the values of solidarity, cooperation, integration and dialogue, launched by the CPMR Inter-Mediterranean Commission and fully supported by the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz.
This awareness campaign calls for an active citizen participation and cooperation and fights against racism, ethnocentrism and xenophobia. It was launched by Michel Vauzelle, President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region and the CRPM Intermediterranean Commission, together with Rosario Crocetta, President of Sicily Region and CPMR Migration Task Force.
A delegation of CPMR Presidents, leaded by Michel Vauzelle and Rosario Crocetta, including Apostolos Katsifaras, President of Region Dytiki Ellada, Joana Ortega, Vice-President of the Catalonia Government, Giusi Nicolini, Mayor of Lampedusa and Eleni Marianou, Secretary General of the CPMR, met on 20 May 2015 with Martin Schulz to seek the European Parliament’s support for establishing an effective Mediterranean Policy that takes into account the management of migration flows and addresses the challenges of the common destiny of Mediterranean people.
During this meeting, held in Strasbourg in the frame of the EP Plenary Session where the migration issue was discussed in length, the CPMR regional Presidents underlined that “they are on the front line without having sufficient means, often bearing the human, financial and technical responsibility of saving lives and supporting migrants in their economic and social integration”.
Martin Schulz offered his “full support” to the public petition campaign that organisers are expecting to be massively signed in the next few weeks.
