Local and Regional Authorities are forced to manage a migratory crisis that affects, beyond the Mediterranean, the whole of Europe, too often by using their own limited resources.
In the framework of the Open Days, the Regions of North Aegean (GR), Calabria and Sicily, with the support of CPMR, EUROCITIES, CEMR, are organising the seminar “Migration: An Active Role for Regions and Cities”. The event, hosted by MEP Eliza Vozemberg (EPP-GR) will take place on Wednesday 14 October 2015 (16.30-18.30) at the European Parliament and will provide an opportunity to exchange views and experiences on migration management from the perspective of regional and local authorities.
The debates will also focus on the use of the EU funds related to migration and the need for the Regions to play a more decisive role in their use, being on the front line often without having sufficient means. Ideas and best practices will be presented to improve access to funding for Regions that are in urgent need either in terms of initial reception centres or for integration actions.
Participants include Mario Oliverio, President of Calabria Region (IT), Rosario Crocetta, President of Sicily Region (IT), Christiana Kalogirou, Governor of the North Aegean Region (GR) as well as Enrico Rossi, President of Tuscany and Vice-President of the CPMR (IT).
