The CPMR participated in a panel discussion within the ESPON seminar “A woespon fotorld without borders – Refugees, cooperation and territories”, organised in Luxembourg on 8-9 December 2015, in cooperation with the current Presidency of the EU Council.

The seminar was an important opportunity for the ESPON to engage stakeholders in discussions about their need for territorial evidence, particularly on the “Territorial aspects of refugee migration to Europe”, “Cross-border cooperation” and “European macro-regional strategies”.

During the work, the CPMR expressed its members’ views on Migration, well detailed in its Policy Position adopted in November 2015 and highlighted the humanitarian emergencies that regions in the reception countries need to address, as well as the challenge that regions in destination countries face regarding a quick and efficient integration of refugees in their societies, with emphasis on education and access to the labour market.

Participants recognised the importance of sharing best practice and experiences among cities, town and regions and to increase their cooperation across borders and transnationally.
