The major new DESTINATIONS project – which includes the CPMR as a partner – will unveil plans to improve the cycling structure in the city of Limassol, on the southern coast of Cyprus.

DESTINATIONS, a four-year sustainable mobility project co-financed by H2020, involves cities in six islands from CPMR member regions and aims to develop innovative new initiatives to improve their tourism and transport without damaging the environment.

As well as Cyrpus, it involves insular cities in six CPMR member regions: Madeira, Canarias, Malta, Crete and Tuscany (the communities of Rio Marina & Portoferraio on the small island of Elba).

In Limassol, a well-known holiday destination, the project will help to upgrade the city’s cycling infrastructure, connecting the city with the coastline. The aim of the project is to attract more locals and visitors to explore Limassol town, the countryside and its diversity.

It will upgrade the cycling routes which start from Limassol’s bustling and beautiful coastline and lead along asphalt roads to popular summer resorts in Troodos mountains, about 1,200 meters above sea level.

The project will also help increase interest in cycling, as an alternative mode of transport for tourists and citizens alike, in combination with special interest tourist activities.
